Lunar and Saturn Occultation
02nd March 2007

Moon without Saturn
Moon image without Saturn for the first image.   When capturing the Moon with Saturn you can not get both planet and Moon in the same snapshot with great detail.  All images on this page were taken through the 90m/m Megrez and the Fine Pix camera.
These images were taken using  hand held camera  at the focus of a  7m/m Nagler eyepiece.
Moon without Saturn again Moon again without Saturn showing more detail.  Graham got up around 01.00 UT to capture this occultation series of images.
Here Saturn is still quite a way from the Moon but already the image of the Moon is somewhat saturated because of capturing the much fainter planet.
Saturn approaching the Moon.
Now Saturn is sliding behind the Moon.
Slowly getting smaller as more of the planet goes behind the Moons surface.
Nearly half  of Saturn is now behind the Moon.
Even though Saturn is behind the surface of the Moon you can still see the rings very clearly.
Not quite clear enough to make out the Cassini Devision.  Now its around 03.00UT and Graham heads off  back to bed as he has got work in the morning.   Thanks for sharing these images Graham.
